9. You Watch Too Much TV.

Sitting in front of the tube for hours on end is now way to show your back that you care. Norwegian teenagers were studied to determine the effects of prolonged TV watching or computer use. After spending over 15 hours a week in front of the TV teens increased their likelihood of back pain by 35 percent over their more active counter parts. American teenagers also average about three hours of TV a day.

“They sit around all day with their back hunched over and their lower back flexed to the breaking limit—super hunched over—for many hours,” commented Dr. Astrid Noreng Sjolie, PhD, of Hedmark University College.

The Remedy: Limit your TV habits to the shows you really really want to watch and no more. Don’t sit back and idly flip from channel to channel fecklessly hoping for something to catch your eye. Get up during commercial breaks and stretch your back muscles to prevent strain and pain.

If you have children in you care, have them walk a mile a day. This can reduce the pain of cramping up a developing spinal column.
