Prolonged periods of time hunching over a steering wheel can cause tightening of the pectoral muscles and rounding of the shoulders. A slumping posture can sap vital energy and make you look (and feel) heavy. Slouching is also extremely strenuous to the neck and back and can contribute to problems later on. Darren W. Marlow, DC, director of Texas Back Institute’s chiropractic division, knows all about back problems and advises his patients to first consider their posture when behind the wheel.

The Remedy: “Do not extend yourself in the driver’s seat, sit upright; at a 90 degree angle”, advises Todd Sinett, “Keep close to the wheel; extending your legs puts your back in a compromising condition, few people are even aware they are doing this.
